"I took you to lure my brother out of Baara, but now...
I'm not giving you up without a fight."
The kingdom fell the day my brother murdered our parents.
Even though it has been five years, it still feels like last week when my brother sat in his new place on my father’s throne. Our world is hidden from the one people know. Peace was meant to be kept in order to avoid most of humanity discovering our place of magic, but there was a raid from an enemy kingdom and my parents fell in ‘battle’.
I do not believe the tale of their demise. My parents were courageous, I do not believe they cowered away only to die worthlessly in their bedroom. My brother was the one to find them, and his charisma alone was enough to persuade the council that he deserved his place on the throne.
He is my older brother and I would have gladly followed his rule, if it were not for my parents decision days before to make me the Crowned Prince – next in line ahead of my brother, the promiscuous and flirtatious bastard that he is. If the ceremony had commenced the next day, he never would have taken the crown. That night I feared my own life, for my brother Leon was as cunning as he was uninhibited.
I fled. It wasn’t the right thing to do, but I would never be able to overthrow my brother from the insides of a dungeon or six feet under dirt. Only a few of my men escaped with me – Hugo, our cousin, and a fine archer if I do say so myself. Phillip, the only one I trust with my life has been my best friend and right-hand man since our youngest years. I think his mother was a dark elf, but he’s not even sure about that. The twins, Kai and Koon, were abandoned by their parents when they were toddlers. Even though they were destined to die on the streets of the Kingdom of Baara, they endured and became apprentice blacksmiths, designing blades like no other. It’s the explosive components they play with that you truly want to worry about.
The only place we could hide was amongst the streets of New York, a busy place filled with more humans in one city than most countries occupy. We are getting stronger. My magic is flawless and it will only be a short amount of time before we invade the city – the only thing we need is an army, or for my brother to lose his head. We are a small group, so our only hope is to infiltrate and execute under the cover of darkness.
